At what size should you start having one on one meetings?
I recently joined a company that has around 40 people. To my surprise, they didn't have any one on one meetings set up, everything was very ad hoc. After some back and forth and literally writing a blog post to convince him, the founder CEO agreed to start having them. This was about six months ago and recently he told me that if it wasn't for my recommendation, he wouldn't have thought about introducing them himself.
I work for a company with around 15 employees. I was also surprised that my manager didn’t have one on ones. My only interaction with my manager is in a group of 3-4 people.
I have only worked in large organizations, but small teams and they have always had 1:1's
I would find it weird if I was in a company larger than 3 or 4 not to have them, otherwise, how do you figure out your career path....
Like you that seems very strange to me, but maybe a time thing, new startup founders have to do a lot, but man-management must be a top priority!
